A must for Dynamics AX developers
By Alexander Kaganov
It was a great coincidence that this book came out just before I was tasked with creating a couple of Dynamics AX AIF services. Every Dynamics AX developer knows that Microsoft’s own documentation is often incomplete and scattered around so it’s hard to get a full picture of how to get from nothing to your desired result.
This book saved me a lot of time providing all necessary information to create the end result I needed.
The book is greatly structured. It starts out with an introduction into SOA which is great for new developers. Next it gradually brings you into the world of Dynamics AX service implementation. It gives thorough explanation of how to set up services in the environment. Then it explains how to create two major types of AIF services – a document service and a custom service. A separate chapter describes all necessary details on how to use system services and includes a number of samples.
Honestly I would expect the authors to stop right here – but they didn’t. They added a whole chapter on how to use the new SysOperation framework which is great even for developers who don’t need to touch AIF. There’s a chapter on High Availability that will appeal to system administrators and another one for Tracing and Debugging.
Overall it’s a great book that a lot of audience will find very relevant to their daily tasks.
In addition, Packt Publishing often runs eBook sales and there’s one going on right now so jump on it!

I was able to implement my first oData service is a very short time.
The last chapters introduce to High availability, how to configure AX and how to trace and debug the CIL compiled code.
It is well written, full of examples and figures and makes you able to finish complex tasks easier
