Hunt's wide-ranging professional and personal scholarship allows him to interpret Caravaggio's complicated religious and classical imagery while anchoring his art in his life.

Large Print, Large Reproductions, Large Scope!

There are many books devoted to the life and work of Caravaggio and it helps to have several reference books in the library of those fascinated by art history and the immeasurable impact Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio made and continues to make on the art world. This huge and heavy book is the Second Revised Edition (the first being published in 2001) and the only significant differences are the inclusion of a second Introduction and the polishing of some of the information that was in the original.

John T. Spike is an art historian form Harvard who has published books on the Florentine Renaissance, most successfully with `Masaccio' and `Fra Angelica'. Spike lives in Florence, Ital now and continues to research all the hidden corners of Italian art. The book includes a comprehensive catalogue of the works of the Caravaggio in CD format in the back panel of the book - a bit of one upsmanship that makes this expensive book worth the price.

But the most impressive aspect of this particular volume is the manner in which Spike presents the material. Everything is in chronological order, a technique that allows the reader/viewer to appreciate the growth both artistically and socio-politically. The color plates are vividly accurate and another fine aspect of this volume is the number of cropped details that accompany the full painting - far more than any other book on the artist.

In all this is a comprehensive, well-documented volume from Abbeville Press, and Amazon's price listing makes it affordable. Grady Harp, October 13

Wonderful book

It is a complete review of Caravaggio's work with beautiful illustrations and a very accurate biography. It is an extremely scholarly work, but also very easy to read. If you love Caravaggio's paintings this is a MUST to own!

Unreadable

I agree with the other reviews that this short book is incorrectly formatted. It displays sideways on both my desktop computer and my Kindle whether held in portrait or landscape mode. To make matters worse, each on-screen page shows two pages of the original printed booklet with some text missing at each junction.

Poor format

I liked the information contained in this book. However there is a large blank spot in the middle of each page. Also the book was continually side way no matter which way I turned the kindle. Other then that I think the author spent too much time talking about spoon designs and not enough time talking about the business side of carving. If you are looking for a good book on green wood spoon carving I would suggest wille Lindquist carving in the Swedish style as a better starting place.

Incorrectly formatted for Kindle Fire 6. Totally unusable. It continually rotates its screen orientation, but never so it can be read. The pages are split also. Looking at it sideways it looks like it would be a useful book and I am very disappointed.

Do what Stefan Cain says!

You would think something like using and reading body language would be engrained in us – something instinctual, but Stefan Cain gives a reality check in The Language of Love: Powerful Body Language to Attract the Opposite Sex. This book talks about why understanding nonverbal communication is important, how to read body language from men and women, use body language to attract someone you’re interested in, cope with nerves, be more confident, and confidently engage with the person you are attracted to.

Reading this book helped me become more aware of my own body language. According to the chapter on women’s nonverbal signals, I am very flirtatious. It explains the extra attention from a lot of the guys I simply had a conversation with. Fortunately, it shows the advice given in this book works. Definitely read the book, and do what this guy says!

Read this if you're dating!

Stefan Cain gives a lot of good tips on interacting with others through body language and conversation, and about boosting your confidence. He touches on all the essential points for making yourself attractive and being bold enough to approach someone you like. This has definitely helped me out and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their appeal.

The advice in the book is very practical and it works.

Everyone has that buddy who doesn’t get any play because he’s too nervous to go up to a chick. I have that buddy, and let him read this book. We went out yesterday after work, and using stuff he got from this book, he got a chick’s number! He’s a pretty shy so I was particularly surprised. They’re going out this weekend, so we’ll see how it goes, but this book is a must-read.

This book is excellent in explaining the core fundamentals of body language, and how it can be used to your advantage. It condenses a lot of information into one book and contains much less fluff that other similar body language books I’ve read in the past. If you want a no BS book, one that doesn’t waste your time beating around the bush, this one does it very well.

It has a lot of great advice in it about using body language to up your confidence and attract the opposite sex, and reading someone else’s body language to see whether or not they’re into you.

DAVID!!

IT'S CHRISTMAS, DAVID!

What luck this book arrived a few days before Christmas. What fun for me to sit on the couch with my three year old Paige snuggled next to me as we read the current adventures of David -- on Christmas morning together!

As usual, David is a little stinker and it being Christmas time is no exception. David is playing with tree ornaments, looking for his presents, sneaking cookies, being a bad little boy! And Santa is watching, but David just can't help himself.

On one page we saw David streaking down the street dressed only in a Christmas hat! When I asked Paige if he was being a bad boy she said YES, YOU SHOULD ONLY RUN AROUND NAKED IN YOUR HOUSE! Out of the mouth of babes!

Does David get presents from Santa for being a good boy? Or has David been so bad that he receives nothing but a big old lump of coal? Read the book with your babies and find out!

As usual, the illustrations are wonderfully life-like and definitely kid oriented. David's facial expressions speak volumes. My personal favorite picture was of David in his pajamas looking out his window into the night, searching for the man in red. What a great book to give to those kids in your life any time of the year, but especially at Christmas time!

David is always a joy to bring into your house.

Another great addition to your 'David' library

We own all of the previous David books, and my daughter was thrilled when this latest addition arrived. David is up to his usual antics, although with a holiday twist. Plain, simple language and bright eye-catching illustrations capture the essence of how hard it can be to be on one's best behavior when tempted by all the holiday fun and goodies. David plays with the ornaments on the tree, snitches cookies, and runs bare (almost) through the neighborhood. I think the author does a wonderful job of showing that even when a child tries so hard to be good, it's really hard sometimes. Some parents may be less than thrilled with the writing of his name in the snow or the fact that even though he's been naughty all year, in the end Santa comes through with a pile of Christmas goodness. However my daughter and I have always thought that the overall message of the David books was love and acceptance; in the end, he's loved no matter his faults. It's not my favorite of the David books, but my daughter rates it 5 stars.

It's David...at Christmas

The "David" books are simple books about the mischevious boy named David. The original featured him getting in trouble at school. This features David wreaking lovable havoc at Christmas. The kids dig it. The "David" stories aren't big on plot, just entertaining scenarios for the kids. If your kids loved the first David book, get it. If they thought it was so-so, check it out from the library.
